The Mary L. Fisher Missionary Society
"P.I.N.C. - Personal Involvement Now with Christ"
The Women's Missionary Society at Adams Chapel was formed under the leadership and vision of Rev. Michael O. Thomas in 1982 with Sis. Linda Alford (now pastoring in Atlanta, GA) serving as its first president. Other persons who have served as president over the last 22 years are: Sis Fannie Sumpter, Sis Marie Wicks, and Sis. Alice Thrasher.
The Adams Chapel Missionary Society goes beyond the walls of our church. Famous for our plays, we once traveled throughout the Baltimore Conference, and even North Carolina, performing a play entitled, "A Desire for PINC!" (Personal Involvement Now with Christ). True to our Missionary calling, we hosted area meetings, including a Family Life Seminar. We have also sponsored or facilitated numerous outreach and mission projects over the years:
fire prevention workshops
voter registration drives and election day transportation
benevolent offerings for fire, eviction and other emergencies
weekly "Bread for the Hungry" food distribution
Census participation drives
adopt-a-school and provision of school supplies
adoption of families at Thanksgiving and Christmas
annual Seniors' Luncheon
donations of eyeglasses and prescriptions for seniors and children
In April 2003 the Society welcomed our first male missionaries, Bro. Johnie McCaskill and Bro. Bertram McKeithen. In August of that same year, the Adams Chapel Women's Missionary Society was renamed "The Mary L. Fisher (M.L.F.) Missionary Society of Adams Chapel AME Church" in honor of one of the longest serving Presidents, Mary L. Fisher.
Our current president is Sis. Marguerite McClammy. A registered nurse by training and profession, she has pushed the Missionary Society to even higher heights. Our focus since 2003 has been on missions and projects that advance the physical and mental awareness and well-being of our community. We have hosted community information sessions every two months on health topics of importance to the African-American community and hope to kick off a church wellness program.
